Heart Failure Parliament Watch #5
Priority alert: Juliet Campbell MP intensifies scrutiny of heart failure diagnostic delays
Juliet Campbell (Labour, Broxtowe) has tabled another highly specific parliamentary question, dated 9 October 2026, examining whether patients with suspected heart failure receive echocardiography within recommended diagnostic timescales.
Campbell has asked the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care what proportion of patients received an echocardiogram within National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommended timeframes over the past five years, requesting separate figures for Broxtowe, Nottinghamshire and England.
The question is awaiting a Government answer.

Why this matters
This is a meaningful progression in Campbell’s parliamentary activity.
Her September interventions concentrated on NT-proBNP testing in community pharmacies, earlier diagnosis, specialist services and the financial consequences of emergency admissions.
She is now asking for measurable evidence of whether the NHS delivers timely heart failure diagnostics.
This aligns particularly closely with three Pumping Marvellous priorities: accelerating diagnosis through BEAT to TREAT, reducing geographical inequalities in access to echocardiography, and establishing meaningful heart failure performance measures within the CVD Modern Service Framework.
The question also creates an opportunity to examine whether existing diagnostic waiting-time data are sufficiently detailed to support ICB-level accountability.
Parliamentary intelligence assessment
Juliet Campbell MP is moving beyond general heart failure awareness towards questions about diagnostic performance, pathway delivery and accountability.
