Volunteering can be very fulfilling especially if the cause is close to your heart. The Pumping Marvellous Foundation wouldn’t be the success that it is without volunteers. If you are interested in helping us help people and their families who suffer from heart failure, then please tell us how you would like to help by contacting us here

Trying to put what being a patient educator has meant to me into a paragraph is impossible. It has meant so much. I wanted something for myself, where I could make a difference however small. Being an educator has given me all of that and also given me experiences and friends I never would have had otherwise. It’s often pushed me out of my comfort zone. I’ve been on the radio the news, in recording studios and talked about heart failure in front of lots of people, even Westminster! All of it has been amazing but it’s the day-to-day speaking to others with heart failure and making sure the online group is a safe, supportive place that I’ve proudest of. I’m so very glad that I volunteered to be a patient educator.

I love being able to share my experiences from my own heart failure journey with newbies to the group. Hopefully, it helps to alleviate their initial and immediate concerns having recently been diagnosed which can be an anxious time. Being able to discuss treatments, meds, rehab etc is often therapeutic for me as much as the members being educated. There is a huge benefit to being part of a community because often friends and family do not understand how it feels to have heart failure, therefore linking with follow hearties does help.

When I accepted the invitation to become a PM patient educator I wanted to try to give something back for all the support I took after my diagnosis and to improve things for those coming after me. Undoubtedly I have learned a great deal and continue to do so, which has helped me no end to manage myself well. I hope that I’ve been able to combine that new knowledge with my experience and skill-set from my working life to constructively advise others and help them to work out how to live their lives with heart failure as well as they can. To me, that’s the essence of Pumping Marvellous. Support for others, together with freely sharing knowledge and personal experience to help lift each other up. That’s what it’s for and it’s what we’re about.

I have learned so much about heart failure and also have learned that there is a positive side to heart failure. I have met many new friends and people who understand what you deal with. I enjoy interacting with other people and being there when needed to support people and also guide them along the way with their diagnosis where I can. I have gained more confidence in myself and about heart failure through the charity and really enjoy helping with Pumping Marvellous where and when I can.

Pumping Marvellous were a massive support to me after my diagnosis and I want to be able to support and help others going through what is a very frightening and worrying time in their lives ❤️

Volunteering for Pumping Marvellous is a great opportunity to do something that genuinely makes a difference.

Volunteering for Pumping Marvellous gave me a purpose… I never wanted anyone else to feel the way I did when diagnosed which was scared and not seeing any hope for the future.  I wanted to help alleviate these feelings in others.

Pumping Marvellous has been a huge support to me following my own diagnosis. I have learned so much about heart failure. It means a lot to me to be able to give back as a patient educator with Pumping Marvellous and be able to support other patients through peer-to-peer support and be proactive while striving to raise awareness of Heart Failure and help to initiate change and improve services etc for heart failure patients going forwards.

As a Volunteer for Pumping Marvellous you may find you have more control over your heart failure, you will learn and grow as a patient advocate and be able to help effect change for now and the future. Being a volunteer offers me a greater support, helping others is it’s own therapy for me, when things feel hopeless I can still feel a sense of satisfaction and pride when representing Pumping Marvellous.

I became a volunteer to help others through what was the most difficult time of my life! I ended up finding a family full of people all on the journey with me! I wasn’t alone! If I can help one person through this then I have purpose ❤️

Being a volunteer for Pumping Marvellous seemed an obvious thing to do following my own heart failure diagnosis. The downloadable publications really spoke to me in a patients tone of voice at a time I really needed it. As a volunteer I like sharing my own knowledge, experiences, and positive approach with my peers… it is something I am really passionate about. If I can help one person, then it’s worth it!
