Great North Run 2023

Previous Fundraisers

Rich was diagnosed with heart failure in 2016 and spent 4 weeks in hospital. There he made a decision to make changes to his lifestyle and reached out to us shortly afterwards. Less than a year after his diagnosis he ran his first ever 5km run. Rich has pushed himself time and time again following his diagnosis. He climbed Mount Snowdon in 2018 with other members of the Pumping Marvellous Community, and he completed a 192-mile journey Coast to Coast in 2019 after setting himself a goal to walk or run 1000 miles. His greatest achievement to date was completing the London Marathon in 2021. This year Rich has gone all out by taking part in Ride London, the Leeds marathon and the Great North Run. His sheer will and determination to not let his diagnosis hold him back is an inspiration for us at Pumping Marvellous.

The Wildings

When Kasey’s cousin, Jamie (30), very sadly passed away following a long battle with heart failure and associated conditions, Kasey organised a walk across Luton 2021 in Jamie’s memory, ending at Kenilworth Road, home of Jamie’s beloved Luton Town Football Club. Over 30 of Jamie’s friends and family took part in the event to make it a really successful and very moving day.

This year Kasey, Chloe (Jamie’s sister) and Corey (Chloe’s partner) all took part in the Vitality 10K event. All three have shown remarkable determination and passion in fundraising for people living with heart failure.

Pippa, a West End musical theatre composer and lyricist based in London, was first introduced to the charity when she wrote and helped produce their 2020 Christmas song. Through her Covid-19 furloughed contacts in the West End, she took the Christmas song and amplified it far beyond its origins.  When she contacted the charity to run the London Marathon in their name to support heart failure patients once again, they jumped at the chance to offer her a charity place.  Pippa raised an amazing amount of money and kept the spirits up of her fellow Pumping Marvellous runners all throughout training.

Rhys’s father-in-law, Rob Marchment, was a real friend to Pumping Marvellous. For several years, he worked selflessly to support the charity.  He was the “voice” of the charity, with a wonderful talent for storytelling and speaking, coupled with a very calm and soothing voice full of expression which resonated with his chosen audience.

When Rhys contacted the charity to run the London Marathon in Rob’s memory to support heart failure patients, they were honoured to provide him with a charity place.

Secret sauce

Dictionary – “A special quality or feature regarded as the chief factor in the success of something or someone.”

So, what’s your “Secret Sauce?” What makes you tick?

At Pumping Marvellous, we know it takes some real inner drive to live well with heart failure. Pumping Marvellous are Secret Sauce catalysts; we draw out people’s inner Secret Sauce, people’s superpowers and enable other people to learn from other people’s experiences.
