Patient Educator Gavin Receives our 2025 Gary Award

Patient Educator Gavin Redhead received our 2025 “Gary Award” that celebrates individuals or teams who deliver outstanding support to people living with heart failure outside a clinical setting.

Our CEO Nick said: “Fruit and Veg Gav, it has been incredible to watch you grow in strength since your transplant, just like the produce on your allotment.

“To then ‘rank’ and bring home a collection of medals from the Transplant Games says everything about your grit, determination and refusal to let heart failure dull your spirit.

“You are a true inspiration to your peers, always ready with guidance and support, while never shying away from the realities and challenges that come with heart failure and, more recently, your heart transplant.

“You seize every opportunity to share your sense of humour and quick wit, tackling every challenge we throw at you with vigour and enthusiasm — including the ‘Italian job’, where everything was ‘marvaloose’, language barrier included.

“PM blood runs through your veins, and if we handed out medals, you’d take gold every time.

“In short, we think you are marvellous.

“Thank you for being you.

“Named in honour of Gary ‘the Book’, who we sadly lost last year — a friend, a storyteller, and the heart of Marvellous Mondays, who kept us all entertained with his dry sense of humour during the pandemic and beyond.”
